The top headline in today’s This Morning 6 O’Clock: “The most blatant food safety issues will be resolved in the next three years.” The article says the State Council has put forth a set of milestones to help track its progress in building a better food regulation system over the next five years. They plan to stop the most blatant offenses in the next three years. In five years, they will have developed a strong food safety regulatory system with better-enforced food safety laws, more inspections, and a general increase in awareness and integrity throughout the system. The Beijing Daily Messenger, formerly known as the Star Daily, is a weekday newspaper distributed on the Beijing subway. Today’s front page features the headline, “a generation of ID cards will be retired next year.” According to the article, the Vice Minister of Public Security, Huang Ming said that China will fully switch to fingerprint registration and no longer use ID cards by January 30, 2013. Public security organs are preparing for the switch by taking down people’s fingerprint information when they either go to apply for this second generation of identity registration, or go to renew or replace documents. The article stresses that the policy will be based on voluntary participation, and that public security organs are not allowed to force mass registration of fingerprint information. Read more
